USING SUNSCREEN AND REPELLENTS

Using Sunscreen and Repellents

In Mexico, there is a great variety of traditions and climates on every region. Due to the vast flora, fauna and bodies of water that cover our land, the environment and temperature dictate the measures and precautions we must take in order to stay in balance with nature.
In the rainforest regions, such as Chiapas, Yucatan, Quintana Roo, and even Veracruz, the thick vegetation covering their land, including the bodies of water, provide the perfect place for the proliferation of mosquitoes that can cause skin irritation.
To prevent this situation, repellents, preferably organic ones, will be the best allies to enjoy the region’s beautiful landscapes. Either in gel, spray or lotion, the insect repellent must be long-lasting, non-toxic, non-irritant, and ecologically friendly.
Comfortable and cool clothing will make your day much easier for your planned activities. Tennis shoes and athletic clothing is always a good option while in contact with nature.
If the vacation season will be spent at the magnificent Mexican beaches, where the main attractions are the sun and the ocean, it is advisable to take care of your skin due to the high exposition to the sun’s rays. For this purpose, sunscreens or tanning lotions are a must in your luggage.
The solar protection factor (SPF) should be a determining factor choosing a good sunscreen. The type of skin, the effective time and the gentleness with nature (biodegradable) must also be considered.
Applying gel, oil, lotion or spray 30 minutes before stepping out into the sun will prevent skin lesions. In addition, it is advisable to reapply every two hours and avoid the direct sunlight between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Cool clothing and of light colors will reflect the sun’s rays, which in turn reduces body heat; meanwhile, dark clothing absorbs with more intensity the solar radiation.
