Driving Tips for the Highway and City

Traveling through the different Mexican regions provide a time of great visual pleasure. When traveling by car, visitors will get the most by admiring an endless number of landscapes.

Nevertheless, it is very important to keep in mind certain precautions that will make your drive more pleasant:
Do a maintenance check on your car before leaving to prevent any possible mechanical or electrical malfunctions (oil, water, battery, lights, wipers and signal lights).
Follow all road signs whose purpose is to prevent accidents.
Avoid driving during the night due to reduced visibility and potential miscalculations of distances.
Buckle your seat belt and make sure all passengers do as well.

 Around the city:
The average speed in the main cities such as Monterrey, Guadalajara, Morelia and Mexico City, is 80 km/h due to the great number of pedestrians, family cars and public vehicles.
Obey all street lights and crosswalks, which are marked with vertical yellow or white lines, and usually located on crossroads and school zones.
Be patient during slow traffic which usually occurs during office hours (from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.) Public transportation vehicles might continuously disrupt the flow of traffic.
Do not change lanes frequently on stretches with slow traffic; this will prevent disturbing other drivers.

On the highway:
The speed limit on highways is 120 km/h, which allows enough reaction time before any unexpected disruption.
Do not drive if you are tired, since driving on the highway usually encompasses long distances without rest areas.
Pay close attention to curves and their road sings, and slow down as much as possible.
